Children are provided a wide variety of materials and activities to encourage and support fine motor development. Such materials as puzzles, pegboards, painting, coloring, play dough, cutting, stringing beads, and building with Legos are all examples of activities that promote the development of small motor skills. The teacher's role is to observe the children's progress and provide increasingly challenging materials when appropriate.

Through daily music and outdoor activities, children have the opportunity to use their large muscles. Children are given ample time to run, jump, ride tricycles, jump rope, climb, swing, and bounce balls during their scheduled outdoor time. Music and movement is also used daily in the curriculum to provide additional opportunities for children to practice these skills.
